Uzbekistan Relaxed Tour
Central Asia has been hailed as a prime tourist destination for
2020 and Uzbekistan, bursting with old-world charm and historical wonders, is
the crowning jewel of this underrated region. Somewhere between the grand
palaces of Khiva, the regal turquoise-domed tombs of Samarkand and the imposing
fortresses and madrassahs sprinkled throughout Bukhara’s exotic dusty streets,
Uzbekistan is sure to reward each curious and open-minded traveler who visits
this endearing land.

The Uzbekistan Relaxed
Tour 2020 allows you to experience the very best of Uzbekistan at a laid-back
pace that will not leave you feeling tired, rushed or overwhelmed. This tour
doesn’t compromise on content, taking you through the cities of Tashkent, Khiva,
Bukhara, Gijduvan and Samarkand and introducing you to the greatest sites in
each region. Yet it also provides plenty of time for relaxation and personal
exploration, giving you the benefits of both a guided group tour and the
flexibility to choose which sites to focus on in each city.
Probably, Khiva
is the most peculiar Uzbek city. Its history is inextricably connected
with the history of the legendary Khorezmshah’s State with its capital in
Urgench before. Khiva is a very ancient city.
In the 10th
century Khiva is mentioned as a major trading center on the Silk Road. All
the caravans had a stop here on their way to China and back. From dawn to
dusk, until the gates were opened, an endless stream of moving string of camels
with baggage passed them.
At the beginning
of the 16th century Khorezm State became home for Uzbek nomadic tribes, who
founded Khive Khanate here. However, Khiva did not become immediately the
Khanate’s capital. It happened only after Urgench, an existing capital, had
been destroyed due to the change of Amu Darya’s channel. In 1598 Khiva
became the main city of the state.
In the 19th
century Russia annexed part of Khiva Khanate. One century later, in 1919, the
last Khan was liquidated of the ruling dynasty. So Khiva became the
capital of the new Khorezm Soviet People's Republic. In 1924 territories
of Khorezm oasis became a part of modern Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
Urgench
(Urganch), the capital of Khorezm province, is a standard-issue Soviet grid of
broad streets and empty squares, 450km northwest of Bukhara across the
desolation of the Kyzylkum desert. When the Amu-Darya changed course in the
16th century, the people of Konye-Urgench (then called Gurganj), 150km
downriver in present-day Turkmenistan, were left without water and started a
new town here.
